Boy Scouts, Camping and Rain

There is just something about our Troop planning a campout that makes the weather men say the dreaded “R” word, RAIN.  Our November campout is to be this weekend.  It is only an overnighter and it will happen, I think…..

Unfortunately, we have no control over the Gleaning Network we are supposed to assist.  The farmer and Gleaners may have to call off the gleaning service project.

We will have our “Iron Chef” cook off.  And we will have a campfire, the Scoutmaster is planning on getting some firewood cut and stored under a tarp at the campsite early in the week.  We are planning to have a Flag Retirement Ceremony, many civic groups and individuals donate old flags for our Troop to retire properly.  It is a very moving ceremony and it always amazes me the way loud and extremely active boys can settle down and get serious so quickly.  It really makes me proud of the boys.

I hope the rain will not come.  Saturday is a long way off…..

But as a BSA Trainer once told a group of Scoutmasters,  There will be weather and there will be a campout.
